The High Hats

Rikki LaCoste

Patakin Co-Founder

Primed as an alum of St. Michael's Choir School, Rikki's first instrument was his voice, and piano.  He ported his early musical training into any instrument he could get his hands on, and became a performer and composer - but soon fell in love with percussion.

He has since been learning and teaching percussion for over 25 years, and has been a part of Toronto's rhythm community for just as long.

Over the years, Rikki has been a member of (among many others) the Subtonic Monks, Firedance, IO, Wychwood Children, Samba Squad, Spark Dance, and Aphrodite Unbound.

He is currently an activist with Toronto ACORN, a consultant at Toronto City Hall's Poverty Reduction Office through LEAG (Lived Experience Advisory Group), on the Board of Directors of the Weston King Neighbourhood Centre (drop-in and food bank), and is still composing and performing.  You can find a collection of his original music at panthea.bandcamp.com.
