Step into the rhythm, culture, and spirit of The Bahamas through this lively Bahamian Folk Dance workshop! Rooted in a rich blend of African movement traditions and European influences, Bahamian folk dance reflects generations of cultural exchange, storytelling, celebration, and community.

Participants will explore traditional movement through rhythmic footwork, expressive use of the torso, pelvis, and arms, partner work, and playful social dance. This workshop will introduce dances such as the Bahamian Quadrille—often associated with weddings and community celebrations—as well as elements of heel-and-toe polka and traditional ring play.

Movement will be explored alongside the infectious rhythms of Rake n’ Scrape, a distinctly Bahamian musical tradition that has long accompanied social and folk dancing throughout the islands.

Fun, energetic, and culturally immersive, this workshop invites participants to move, connect, and experience Bahamian heritage through rhythm, music, and dance. No previous dance experience is required.
